URBAN INUIT

The artworks selected for this installation is a compilation of works that reflect Urban Inuit iconography. Urban Inuit iconography focus is on Inuit living in Ottawa, cultural activities and images that reflects Inuit identity. My goal is explore my community (very robust Inuit community) and to highlight its richness and vibrancy.

Sculpture, carvings, prints and drawing are the dominant art forms with in Inuit art. Photography is relatively newer. I am looking to build a foundation for what I call “Urban Inuit Art Photography” and it to be accepted as a viable art form -“a new canon” so to speak”- within the Inuit Art World.
